Originally, Moquettes were developed for the independent Railway Companies of Great Britain & the London Underground Services. They used the same fabrics in the same colours & designs on both the Buses and the Underground so producing a corporate image. Moquettes are ideal for transport seating as they are cost-effective fabrics which require minimum maintenance and will give a long lifetime service. Companies develop their own corporate colour and design themes which are warm in the winter, cool in the summer and help combat vandalism.
A Moquette is a type of woven pile fabric in which cut or uncut threads form a short dense cut or loop pile. As well as giving it a distinctive velvet-like feel, the pile construction is particularly durable, and ideally suited to applications such as public transport. Its upright fibres form a flexible, non-rigid surface, which are constantly displaced to give durability and anti-stain benefits. Traditional moquette fabrics are made from a wool nylon face with an interwoven cotton backing.
Moquettes are now used throughout the world on Coaches, Buses & Railways as it provides such excellent services. Major transport operators such as Chicago City Transport (CTA), New Jersey Transit (NJT), Greyhound, Coach USA, Veolia/Sweden, Sydney’s SRA & STA, Deutche Bahne (DB), UK Railway Franchisers & our own First Group, Stagecoach, National Express, Arriva, Go Ahead, Transdev, Veolia/UK to name a few, all use Moquettes in their trains & buses.
